OEM Lightbar Problem

Okay, I give up. My OEM lightbar is not very well made. The bulb sockets look like they were made by someone with no hands. The contact point is pushed way back into the plastic, so the end of the bulb only makes contact under ideal conditions. If I hit a bump, the bulb moves and no longer makes contact.

To temporarily fix the problem, I had to solder a bead to the end of the bulb to get it to make contact, then file it down so it would fit into the hole. Don't want to do that everytime I replace bulbs, though.

Anyone know of a company that make bulb sockets that would work?

Get a set of 4411 sealed beams, Napa carries them. They will fit the light shells and have screw terminals right on the bulb and they wont burn out like the OEM crap.

That'll work. Didn't realize 4411's had screw terminals. Thanks DanR. Now I can put the Tylenol back in the cabinet.

Hey, if you and Dr. Bob get a chance, please see my question under Power Commander in the Volusia/C50 forum.

Yep, seems to be a QC issue. I like the OEM bar otherwise, but when you have a problem like this, it just drives you nuts. Especially when you know you paid top yen for it.

I followed the advice about the 4411's after one of my OEM bulbs burned out at 2500 miles. Get some bullet connectors when you get the bulbs, use them to connect the bulbs to the OEM wires. That way you could always go back to "stock" easily if you wanted to.

Sorry about the dalay Tater, what Danr said is correct though. Some Parts places will loan/rent tools, but I don'r think they are that expensive.

I think I even have a crimping tool, so no problem. Had not heard them called bullet connectors before, so that's what was confusing me. Thanks, Jimr.

Okay, everyone that reads this and has an OEM lightbar, do what Danr and Jimr say, get the 4411's to replace the OEM bulbs. I did it this afternoon and it makes too much sense not to do this upgrade. I didn't realize the 4411 bulbs were actually the size of the lens and replaced the entire assy.
Worked great. Jimr, I didn't use the bullet connectors since I NEVER plan to go back to the OEM Suzuki CRAP. Hello, Suzuki, why don't you use the 4411's in your future OEM bar????????? Thanks Danr & Jimr.
