Hello, I'm 18 and I seem to have issues with body odor. To give a quick run down I wear deodorant, I shower 1-2 times a day, not active in sports and my diet is average. I don't eat breakfast ever, don't have an appetite usually in the morning but eat a good amount after 12 PM.

When I am in school, my legs sweat quite a bit due to nervousness from so many people being around me. I've noticed (and other people) that I smell like, for lack of a better word, "farts". I've been dealing with this for probably 1.5-2 yrs now and even use deodorant around my private areas. I can't seem to stop this odor from producing nor can I find where it comes from. I've smelled the back of my pants and boxers after getting home and they don't smell at all. I've thought maybe it could be my shoes since my feet sweat when I am uncomfortable and/or nervous ... but I just can't seem to pinpoint the source of this odor and I'm getting incredibly frustrated by it. Nothing more erabarrassing than someone (especially a woman) getting the idea that you don't have good hygiene when that isn't the case. Any advice/knowledge would be fantastic and appreciated so much.

HI,
This are the Odor symptoms: breath odor, stool odor, body odor, foot odor, Smelly ear, Breath with fecal odor, Breath with fruity odor, Halitosis or other types.
I have suggested some remedies for odor problem:
Use antibacterial soap or deodorant soap to fight body odor due to sweating.
Wear cotton clothes during summer so that the sweat is soaked up.
Instead of using deodorant, wipe your sweat producing areas like armpit using white vinegar or alcohol. Avoid using antiperspirant because they clog sweat glanRAB, use alum instead.
Apply some baking soda on arm pit, it will absorb sweat and kill bacteria.

Fungal infections of the skin can sometimes cause a musty body odor and they're common in guys your age.

Buy a dandruff shampoo, use it like a bodywash for a week, see if that helps. Dandruff shampoos are anti-fungal, like Selson blue or Nizoral.

Not the tar shampoos and steer clear of "anti-bacterial" soaps, they'll make fungal infections worse.

Tough being that age. Instead of using a deodorant, use an antipersperant/deodorant instead. That way if you get wet from "sweating" it should dry it up. I would also try using gold bond powder in your shoes and on your feet and see if that doesn't help your shoe issue. There are also odor eater shoe insterts that help with shoe/foot smell-which is nasty as you know. Are you wearing socks in your shoes? Wearing shoes without socks can contribute to the odor problem.

If you find that these suggestions between the previous poster and myself don't work, make a trip into your docotr and see if there is a medical reason for it.

Just a thought, do you eat highly spiced flood, lots of garlic? Those odors can be secreted through your skin also. When my hubby was in the AF and stationed in Korea, he said the odor of kim chee just seemed to ooze off of some of the folks....

Hey, thanks for the replies.

I did wear boat shoes for a while without socks, but I started wearing my sneakers with socks again for this reason. I do live in an extremely cold/dry environment during this time of year so I do suffer from dandruff - I've used vinegar every now and then to help ( I heard it did).

Been using foot powder recently and even washing my shoes in the washing machine and then the dryer.

I'm going to get some anti-fungal shampoo/soap and just eat greens for a week, see if that does anything.

Thanks again for the replies!

Dust the effected areas with Ammens Original Meidcated Powder after showering, this is both drying and deodorant.

Taking daily Metamucil can help if there is any suggestion that some of the smell is due to gut problems

I'm no professional by any means, so just take this info for what its worth. I just figured I'd throw it out there just in case.

I work for a seasonal company which requires a lot of physical work. During our 'off season' (where we get laid off), I'm not very active. During this time, I notice that when I sweat, it has a bad odor to it, almost like what you describe. When work starts to pick up again and I start to sweat harder and more often, the smell completely vanishes. I don't know how active of a person you are but, maybe you should try working out (running, weights, cardio, anything that will make you sweat) and see if that works.

Look up some information on Trimethylamineuria. It is a metabolic condition where your body doesn't break down certain compounRAB properly - and this leaRAB to a body odor just like you are describing. It can be greatly reduced by diet and help from a doctor.
