Oddly low Ford hp ratings on trucks?

I was looking at the Vortech supercharger website and they list the power ratings of stock cars/trucks, and then the power they make with a Vortech supercharger. Anyways, I noticed the ratings on some of the 1987 - 1997 Ford trucks are pathetically low. For instance, the stock 7.5 liter big block V8s were rated at 230hp and 385 torque in that period. That doesn't even make sense! How could a 460ci engine make significantly less torque then displacement? Even a mild 8.5-1 compression 460 should make 440-450tq at least. Vortech claims that they make 450tq with a 6psi supercharger. Even a mild 460 with a 6psi supercharger should make about 550tq+! I know those motors had a low compression ratio, but that doesn't have a big effect on torque, it mainly effects horsepower. A healthy 351 small block is easily capable of making 385 torque, much less a 460!

And the 351's were rated a 300tq in that period! Was Ford just extremely underrating their truck engines for whatever reason? Those numbers just can't be correct.

Yep Ford=no power

powerchoke=ford sucks

Also beyond the poor HP ratings Ford are the cheapest trucks you can buy thats why they sell the most trucks. But you get what you pay for!!!

You want power and a good drivetrain go Dodge any day.

Look at GM and Chrysler trucks from the same period, they all had crappy power ratings. These engines all had to meet emissions standards, which is why the power ratings are so low. Aftermarket parts really wake these engines up.

same reason my 2.5l honda put 441 down on the dyno. having a massive v8 (and Im not a hater) doesn't mean it should automatically have massive power. it all depends on if they were referring to diesle fuel or gasoline engines. that'll make a big difference. just do some research for your self if you don't believe the numbers they are claiming. or better yet, you could just use wikipedia.
