Occassional Swellings around body

Something strange has started happening to me recently. I started getting a swollen lump on the sole of my foot. Its not really discolored, maybe slightly pink, and doesnt hurt terribly bad, but its uncomfortable (slight itch and pain) and causes me to take a little weight off that foot when I walk. Its appeared a couple times under the ball of the foot and a couple times in the arch area.

Then I got what I thought was a bug bite swollen area just below my elbow on the inside of my left arm. It kind of itched and was irritating, but it didnt go away very quickly. Then I got a big lump in the same place but on my right arm.

I also got one on my right buttock, kind of toward the inner part. Same thing. Itchy, kind of painful, but will go away in time.

All the lumps last from several hours to a day at longest.

This got me to thinking and in the past I've occasionally gotten a swelling feeling in my nose/cheek/sinus area. It is very strange, like kind of numb and very annoying. It must be fairly swollen because if I plug my other nostril I cant breath as easily due to the swollen airway.

I'm starting to get worried about what the heck is going on. Anyone who has any ideas what I should do?

I get an annual check-up with full blood work and my white blood cell count has been on the low end of the "normal" range. Thats the only thing I know of that would be out of the ordinary. Other than that I'm very athletic, active and doing pretty good. Feel tired a lot, but I also work too much so thats probably not an issue.

The swollen areas are becoming much more regular and are very uncomfortable. They're hot as well, warm to the touch. Its effecting my feet especially, but the area below my elbow is also suffering. I've got an appointment at the doctors, but I'm worried that I wont have any swelling that day and the visit wont be very productive. "Yes, I get these big swollen lumps on my feet, elbows and butt....but they're not here now...."

Hi, Bpenn . . . while I have no idea what is causing all of this for you, I do have an idea if you are afraid the swelling might be gone by the time you see the doctor.

Could you, yourself, or someone else take pictures of the visible areas?

Let us know how it goes!

Well, the swelling didnt disappear. In fact it got worse and I got it BAD in my hands. I was sent by my internal medicine doctor to see a rheumatologist who then agreed with my doctor that I needed to be admitted to the hospital since they didnt know what it was and it was spreading. I got out today after spending over 24 hours there. Unfortunately no one knows what it is yet, but they are suspecting that my immune system is the root cause. The rest of my (extensive) bloodwork will be back next week.

I've got to say, its a pretty low feeling thinking about some kind of problem with my immune system. I need to get educated now, because as an athletic 28 year old, it sounds like a life sentence is about to be handed down.

Knowing what is wrong but not knowing what or how it is going to be treated is horrible. Please hang in there and let us know how you are doing as well as what they find out. Medical science has advanced quite a bit in the way of treating auto-immune disorders and it may not even be that. I hope that it is something simple for you.

I have home medical encyclopedias as well as a physicians desk reference here that I inherited from my father when he passed, so anything you are in question about, please post here and I will help as best I can.

I, too, am dealing with some surprises after my annual physical a couple of weeks ago. I was delighted to find out that I was now post-menopausal, but apparently I have a lot of the conditions that go with getting old, even though I am only 51. :(
