Obsessed with a restaurant?

I have a friend who ALWAYS wants to go to a particular restaurant when we go out. It has been like this for ten years or so. The food there is pretty bad. The service is also not very good. The atmosphere is awful. It's a combined restaurant and movie theater, but he wants to go there no matter what movie is showing. He has absolutely no interest in going to any other movie theater, no matter what movie is playing.

I have told him many many times that I don't like the place, whereupon he starts badgering me. If badgering doesn't work, he tries pleading. He tell blatant lies, trying to convince me that this one restaurant is the only place in the entire city we can go. It has gotten so bad that I'm actually considering dropping him as a friend, because I'm tired of the constant battle of wills with someone intent on dragging me to this bad restaurant, who refuses to take no for an answer.

He doesn't know anyone who works at that restaurant, though he worked there himself a long time ago. I've asked him what the deal with the place is, and all he said was, "I just like it."

Can someone please explain what the heck is going on here?
 
Are you SURE he doesn't know anyone that works there? Does he go to any other restaurant ever? If he doesnt than thats WEIRD. Maybe something happened there that he hasn't gotten over ...something bad, something good. who knows. He could just be messing with you

Or....maybe he just likes it. Ask him again, say you wont go unless he gives you a good reason as to why he always wants to go there and not anywhere else.

I bet its you who cant stop going to the restaurant huh? =P
 
I think he probably is afraid of change or being out of his comfort zone. I don't really know what else it could be but it's probably really difficult for him to be in places he's never been before. That's my guess.
