Hey guys. So I just got oblivion and am way to lazy to read the manual so I just kinda guessed.

I first emerged blinking into the daylight and it all seemed well and good. I was a Nord warrior. Great. I trudge into the first stone thing I see (I later found out it was imperial city) I put on all my warrior crap that i found in the sewers and start heading in the direction of the red pointer thing. "Lookie at that!" my generic character says in a voice not unlike EVERY OTHER man in the game. Standing in front on me was a generic horse! this fit my personality awesomely! I went ahead and got on it and rode to Chlorrol (i think that's what its called) all of a sudden a guard looks at me with that stiff look he always has and says "STOP THIEF... bla bla bla" HEHEM! i took this horse from the middle of the f-ing forest! I have no interest to lose all my things because someone forgot their poor little mule in the middle of nowhere (alright fine it was near a wall but no one was near it!) I dont have the 250 needed to pay the fine and I have no interest to rot away in jail.

Is there any way I can return the horse to its loving stone wall so that the guards get off my case?

Okay, firstly, if you ride a horse in Oblivion that is not yours, then it is considered stealing. You can tell if you are about to do something illegal because the crosshair pointer thing will turn red. You can purchase a horse outside almost every major town at a stable. When your crosshair rolls over your horse that you paid for, it will say "My Bay Horse" or whatever type of horse you got.

So, you have a bounty now for stealing the horse. I'm assuming of 250? The only thing I can think of is to explore some dungeons and hope to find some stray coins. (I'm assuming you have been "resisting arrest?") Or you could go to jail. Jail isn't bad.

When you go to jail in Oblivion, the guards take you to the Imperial City Prison. You appear in a cell. Then you click on the bedroll and it will say "Serve your time?" and will tell you how many days in jail it will take to do so. With a bounty of 250, you would not have to spend many days in jail at all. Anyway, the game will act like you're 'sleeping' or 'waiting'; a loading screen will appear outside the prison. You will keep all of your items, except for the items you have stolen from other places. You can know if you have stolen items in your inventory if there is a little red hand symbol by the picture of the item.

As for returning the horse... the citizens of Cyrodiil aren't very forgiving. If you put the horse back where you found it, it will not make the guards stop following you. I would do one of the things I suggested.

For future reference, I would suggest joinin the Theives' Guild. if you join, you can talk to a man who will eliminate your bounty for half the cost. (Ex; if you had a bounty of 250, and you talked to this man, you would only pay 125gold).

Below is a link to a guide that will tell you how to join the Theive's Guild. Good luck, and I hope I helped!

Nope, you gotta pay the fine or go to jail, nothing bad happens in jail, you see a bed and you sleep. for like 30 seconds literally and they give all your stuff back except for stolen stuff
