President Obama says the first family might stick around the D.C. area after he leaves office in 2017 — and that his youngest daughter, Sasha, is going to have a say in the matter.
Sasha and her older sister, Malia, attend Sidwell Friends School in Northwest D.C.; by the time their father leaves the White House, Malia will be in college, but Sasha will still be in high school.
“So we’ve gotta — you know, we gotta make sure that she’s doin’ well… until she goes off to college,” Mr. Obama told ABC News‘ Barbara Walters. “Sasha will have a big say in where we are.”
” ‘Cause she’s, you know, obviously they — and Michelle — have made a lot of sacrifices on behalf of my cockamamie ideas, the running for office and things,” Mr. Obama added.
ABC notes that if the Obamas choose to do so and stay in the District, Mr. Obama will be the first president to stay in the city after leaving office since President Woodrow Wilson, who was partly paralyzed from a stroke and is the only former president in the country’s history to maintain a residency in Washington.
