Not hardly....he FROZE pay for about 1/3 of the staff. A lot of the people in the private sector have had to take CUTS in pay and or hours. He didn't cut anything, just froze raises for now and a lot of people are praising him and saying that so great. BIG DEAL. Did he cut his pay?Did he even freeze his raises? Clinton signed a bill that DOUBLED the pay given to the president of the United States. When was the last time your salary DOUBLED? What a joke. Just more smoke and mirrors provide by the white house to dupe the retarded american public. And a lot of you are buying it. HA HA HA !!!!!Westhill....don't put words in my mouth to make your point. How in the world did you get to be a top contribtor? Don't have a job I suppose.Westhill..your right...my question should have been Why didn't he cut the pay. I was trying to point out that the private sector has taken CUTS in pay. If Obama wanted to make a REAL impression he would be pushing for cuts in pay for ALL government officials.
 
It's a fairly typical move that puts Obama firmly in the good books of the democrats.Perhaps this is a sign that Obama will be acting with the liberal ideology in mind.
 
At least he did it Bush didn't .And he Obama did it on the first day to work.And a couple of other problems and if you notice he Obama put those two other together.Lobbyist and Guantanamo Bay Cuba prison camp.That in its self should send a signal to the Wall Street crowd that they are in a list of crooks .
 
Obviously you have a burr up your you know where and you would not be satisfied if Obama cut all the salaries to zero. The articles I read said he froze salaries of some of the staff. The misrepresentations (that he "cut pay") are yours, and yours alone.The bill Clinton signed to double the president's salary, did not take effect until the next president, George W. Bush, was installed in office. Those were prosperous times, and the US had a budget surplus. In any case, Bush's salary was doubled, and he doubled the national debt! I would not be surprised if Obama took a pay cut, however, it will take an act of Congress to change his salary.
 
He cut the pay for the poor working class and got a instant retirement plan for him self! Not bad for a "I'm for the working man" guy
 
You Republicans. Nothing makes you happy. It would take a vote of congress to cut or raise pay - the President can't just do it. He signed and Executive order Freezing the pay. Making sure that no more of our tax money is absorbed through pay raises that they would get and non of us get. I applaud him for it. its more than any other administration Republican or Democrat has done. Would you rather he did nothing about it and Just let the pay raises go through as scheduled??
 
You're right, it's no big deal. He didn't freeze the pay raises of Congress and the Senate did he. Just another double standard of the left.
 
Just to say read better next time, some people are right and others are taking it too damn serious. Did they cut your pay, if not take a deep breath.
 
Deep breath. There are a lot of misrepresentations at work here.The President has no control over his own salary. Congress determines the President's salary, and Obama is not up for a raise, so he doesn't have to put a freeze on it. Yes, Clinton signed the bill into law, but he didn't get to pick a number and write himself a paycheck. Checks and balances, remember?The president also has no control over the pay of other employees of the federal government (Congress, agency workers, etc). He can only freeze raises for the people who work for him as White House staff. He did not "cut their pay" - they will continue to make their current salaries, but staffers who make over $100,000 a year will not be eligible for automatic increases in 2009. Many private companies and public school systems and nonprofit groups have had to make the same decisions with their staff.The inauguration ceremonies are paid for through fundraising from supporters. The Obama family pays for their own clothes, meals, etc. The only thing that taxpayer money was used for was increased security and logistical support to accommodate the extra 1 million tourists in DC that weekend - and George W. Bush is the person who diverted those funds. As a DC resident, I'm glad he did - the city was very safe and all the trains ran (mostly) on time.And, by the way, most Presidents do not take their full government salary. It often gets donated to various charities.So if you think that your Congressperson is getting paid too much, you should write to your representatives sharing your position.The president of my college and the CEO of the nonprofit that I work for both make more than the President of the United States. Just something to think about.
