Barack Obama enjoyed a round of golf on Saturday to celebrate his 51st birthday, according to a pool report.
The president was joined by a group of friends and colleagues at Andrews Air Force Base. He then traveled to Camp David via Marine One in the afternoon.
Mr. Obama is an avid golfer and according to CBS News, this outing was his 104th round of golf since becoming president.
Last year he celebrated his 50th birthday with a fundraising event in Chicago that featured singer Jennifer Hudson singing “Happy Birthday.” In 2010 he enjoyed a pickup basketball game with several professional and college stars.
The White House did not disclose the president’s plans for the rest of his birthday this year, reports Reuters, or what was on the menu for the birthday meal he was expected to share with his wife, Michelle. Their daughters, Malia and Sasha, spent the week at summer camp and it was unclear if they would join their parents at the presidential retreat.
Next week Mr. Obama is scheduled to travel to Colorado and Connecticut for campaign events. His campaign is using his birthday as a fundraising opportunity, including planning a re-election fundraiser with a birthday theme that the president will host in Chicago next weekend.
In a campaign email last month, Vice President Joe Biden wrote that supporters who donate $5 or more would be entered in a raffle to win a chance to attend the fundraising event at Mr. Obama’s family home.
“Take it from me. You’ll have fun at this one,” Mr. Biden said.
The first lady also sent an email asking supporters to donate to the campaign and sign a card for the president’s birthday.
On Thursday the president spoke at a rally in Florida and was greeted by a rendition of “Happy Birthday” from supporters. Mr. Obama joked that if he were to make a birthday wish, it “probably would have to do with electoral votes. Winning Florida wouldn’t be a bad birthday present.”
Many Republicans offered the president their own form of birthday wishes.
Michelle Bachmann sent a fundraising email to supporters on Friday sharing her birthday greetings and adding that “with any luck, this will be his last one as President of the United States of America.”
The Republican National Committee sent a birthday cake to the Democratic National Committee that featured a picture of Mr. Obama with the caption “You didn’t bake this.”
