I own a '95 Camaro, z28, Lt1 engine. I have recently been having alot of problems with it, which seem to happen one after another. I had the car about 6 months with no problems at all, and suddenly everything is messing up all at once. SORRY it's so long, but I feel like I should start from the beginning, just incase something might have sparked this chain reaction. Thanks in advance!
I had an overheating problem with my car, which I took to a shop to get fixed. It turns out I had a leak in my water pump, so the mechanic replaced my water pump. In doing so, my distributor went out, so the car would not start. We ordered a brand new distributor, which we ended up not using because mine dried out the next day and started up just fine. A few days later, my car died while I was driving. My first thought was that my distributor went out, so I had it towed to the same shop. He put in the new distributor, and my car still would not start. We tried everything. He messed with the timing quite a bit (not sure if that messed something up in the long run or not), but nothing he did would work. Numerous mechanics looked at it and told me it should be starting, but it wasn't. It was then taken to a different shop in the area. This shop told me the problem was the coil and they replaced the ignition coil for me. (I find out later that they put a used coil in it, so I'm not sure if that's the problem I am having right now). It worked fine for a while, but then started overheating again after about a week. I took it back to the shop I had taken it to originally, and we discovered my fans (electric fans) were not working at all. He hooked them up to the battery temporarily until I could get them fixed. Well, it started getting colder, so my car was struggling to not die at the low temperature it was constantly running at, so I took it to a new shop to look at the fans. They diagnosed it as a computer problem, and put a used computer in my car. About a week later, my car dies out of nowhere. It starts back up, runs really rough, backfires, and dies again. Then it won't start at all. I have it towed to the shop again, and they tell me the security ignition module has gone out and they replace it. Also, my ignition coil is getting too hot. Now, another week later, the exact same thing happened again. It dies out of nowhere. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THE DEAL IS?!
Also, recently my battery is charging a little more than usual. I know my starter is getting weak and my fuel pump tested a little low, so do you think that might have anything to do with it? I would just like to know what keeps causing these things to go bad.
