Okay so I have 2-3 spots on my back, not on top of my spine but somewhat near the incision, that have no feeling. I would say they're about the size of the circular size of a soda can. Theres no feeling at all. I assume this is from the retraction and i know there was always the possibility of nerve damage and what not. Is there a chance I will get the feeling back? I mean its not a HUGE deal, its just feels odd if i go to scratch my back. It feels like i skipped a huge spot when in reality i went right over it. So any one else have or had experiences like this, just let me know. Thanks all!! Keep the Faith!

Yes, I know exactly what you are talking about. Unfortunatly, I do not know what causes it. I will be reading these posts to see if the answer pops up. I have 3 areas...1 on either side of spine, right at the top of my butt area and a spot right below my rt. knee. As you said, when you rub or scratch the area it is wierd w/ o being able to feel it. I'll keep reading, but you are not alone:)

I have a considerable nurab spot on my stomach in the area that they made the anterior incision for my procedure...my back is okay except for a little nurabness at the top of the posterior incision area....if you think about what had to be done it doesn't surprise me at all......doesn't help you feel better about it though unfortunately:(

Better nurabness than pain, I think.

I had nurabness in my toe for months. It was after an ESI shot. But, eventually the feeling came back. I think that the doc hit a nerve. For the longest time it was disconcerting. But, I would rather not feel anything than have pain that I would have to take care of.

Your nerves are probley just adjusting.

Moonlight, you're right i would take nurabness over pain any day. Problem is i have both. My fusion was T10-L1. I dont have the same constant aching sharp pain in my mid back anymore. But before the surgery i had pain from mid back all the way down, and i was told the problem was in my mid back so when they fixed that it would alleviate the pain in my lower back. But it didnt. So i now have 3 spots of nurabness on my mid back, and the same bad pain in my lower back. The only thing that changed was the pain is gone from my mid back, and i have nurab spots. I know its the same pain in my back because the pain killers dont touch the pain at all. Thanks everyone.

Hi Ash. I have to say, i have never heard of this condition you have! but i am not a professional! You might want to get checked out by a doctor for this ... Check out Dr. Todd Gravori (google him). he is a UCLA grad Neurosurgeon/Spine Surgeon and has good reviews. good luck and feel better soon! Cheers!

Ash,

It's a common thing. Your doc could have either knicked the nerve or hit it with an instument-hence the nurabness. I am nurab across my lower back from having two surgeries in two weeks. Because they had to cut the nerves twice I may be nurab for the rest of my life. I am also nurab (ahem) somewhere else and that sure doesn't make our intimate life happy. becuase I am 5 years out from my surgery, I will never regain feeling. Bummer.

You stand a good chance of feeling returning up to a year/year and half out.

It's a funny feeling to itch and itch and itch and not get any relief. I have itched during the night until i am bleeding, all because I can't feel....sigh.
