Numbness in leg and swelling in foot???

For about a year or so (I kind of lost count of how long) I have experienced this pins and needles sensation in my left leg only. At least that's how it starts and then it's sharp shooting pains and then it starts to go sort of numb on the surface with the underlying still having pains. This only occurs when I've been standing for more than 5-10 minutes, so I have to sit for a couple minutes to relieve the pressure almost and it goes away immediately, but inevitably comes back when I stand up and stand still again. Well I have noticed that my foot is getting swollen now. Not often but it has happened twice in the past two months, not sure if this is all related but thought it was worth mentioning since it is occurring in the same leg. Does anyone have ANY ideas what could be causing this to happen??? I could really use some ideas as I'm sick of having this happen and not being able to stand for any length of time without being in pain. Please and thank you!!

There are many possible causes for the condition you're describing, from nerve impingement, to shin splints, varicose veins, or Phlebitis. Does anything you do - other than taking the weight off the leg - seem to make it better or worse? Is there heat in the region? Some of the problem may actually come from the lower lumbar spinal area, hips & the sacral region as there are nerves which exit from those areas that run down into the legs. You may want to see someone who deals with muscular/skeletal conditions such as an Osteopath or Chiropractor as they may be able to evaluate the overall contributing factors that could be related to the symptoms.

Good luck & let us know how you're doing.
