Numb neck

I'm not sure where to post this question but here it goes.

I have been getting this weird numbing sensation in my neck. I just loose some sense of touch (not all, I can feel heat/cold) and there is no tingling. It does seem to happen during times when I feel stress or just recently it started when I work out. It really freaks me out and usually goes away after I relax. I do suffer from panic attacks/anxiety but this is a new symptom for me. I told my Dr. about it a couple of months ago and she just said it was probably anxiety but I don't know if I beleive that. Could it be a Carotid Artery Disease? I'm 28, female, not over-weight, low blood pressure...I know I don't fit the type but this numbness thing is driving me nuts and making me not want to work out.

generally, any real numb feelings can come from only two places, either a vascular flow issue or a nerve type issue somewhere that leadsor innervates to that particular area. given the mere fact that you actually lose senory here, or that is what is sounds like anyways, it would be a really good idea at this point to simply try and obtain a referral from your doc for whats called a "contrasted' MRI. the contrast would tend to light up the actual arteries and other places within the c spine where certain findings can remain somewhat hidden without it? but actually getting that good "look' inside the c spine may reveal some type of issue that could very easily be intermittantly hitting the nerve/nerve root that gives that area the sensory ability to even feel the area within that specific dematome that just correlates to any given spinal level.

while docs just LOVE to blame, espescially woman for anything that is possible to some level of anxiety or even all out depression, chances are here that this just could be a bit more than that going on, so it should at least be checked out fully for any possible issues that can just show up in that spinal area that would or could create sensory loss. and like i already mentioned, simply using contrast would help show up the other areas you want and need to see as well(they can also be seen really clearly if needed by using ultrasound with doppler too.the arteries). but you really wont find out anything solid til your doc just does the right thing here and sends you for a contrasted MRI. just so you know, the chances at your age of actually having true carotid artery disease would be pretty minimal(unless you have something in your family history of this?), BUT other possible issues could also impact carotid or venous blood flow too, so that should just get a good look see anyways. just talk to your doc about that MRI with contrast and see what comes from that. good luck with this and please do keep me posted becky, FB
