they use nuclear fission to heat water and create steam. the steam then turns a turbine which is connected to a generator, which produces electricity. the water is then cooled in the cooling towers (those big concrete towers that are the symbol of a nuclear power plant, that is steam coming out of the top, not smoke).
Nuclear power is a much cleaner source of energy than coal for example. because it does not produce any greenhouse gases.
