Elton,

You must have better seating than me at the last NASCAR event:
1-drunken assholes all around
2-cursing like you wouldn't believe, no way could I enjoy a race with my son, unlike the last F1 or GP race I attended
3-Fist fights, I kid you not, fist fights in the parking lot
4-But most of all just the whole idea is unappealing. I do love watching those guys go around a real course twice a year. That reveals the level of talent. Only those from CART or Formula 5000/F1 seem to be able to keep it on the track. Just my opinion though.

Sorry, Elton, you can't make a convert here, just like your man Pedrosa, just not my cup of tea.

Joel,

Wow! What a major drag. There's no way I would have enjoyed that either. No wonder you're not a fan.

I only went once. I was seated in the grandstands along the front straight. It was so loud, (a very cool, awesome, loud, I might add), there was no way anybody could have been heard arguing or cursing, and, (thankfully), I didn't see anybody fighting. If I had, I would have been instantly turned off. Like you, I have no patience for boorish behavior.

Elton,
Like they say "life is tempered by your experiences", and mine, fortunately or unfortunately, with NASCAR have been negative.....Oh well, enough other motorsports to keep me occupied.

And, BTW, I am with you on the drag stuff. Nothing cooler than a MkIII VW Passat wagen running in the 8's....totally cool sleeper

I read two riders explaining why they did not do so well. Pedrosa said Rossi was going hard. Hayden said Dovi was going hard.
To me, Pedrosa wasn't complaining at all. He was stating he was making progress.

I don't see what Pedrosa said wrong in his statement. they are asked how their race went....what are they supposed to say?

Hayden has to give credit to Dovi. The italian beat him on a privateer bike. He should be embarrassed. This is why Dovi has his seat next year. Justified as far as I am concerned.

You guys are too hard on Pedrosa....you are all americans anyway. So he made a mistake two years ago. It was a race, he had brain fade, he said he was sorry. Hayden was still gifted the championship anyway. Get over it.

Pedrosa was way in front of Hayden at Malaysia, but I guess thats just the tyres now.

Anyone taste sour grapes?

I would tend to agree that his statement wasn't too whiny, compared to prior ones. It's the end of the race, it happens, he did ride well, which I never said he couldn't.

Why on the American thing again? This is less about Hayden and more about Pedrosa. In fact, I don't think anyone has mentioned him in a long time in this thread. You brought him back up......

Joel,

I think tcm's point is that it's Americans in particular who have a thing about Pedrosa, and this, "thing," dates back to the Pedrosa/Hayden incident in '06. And because Americans are jingoisitc like no others, many of us tend to root for Hayden above all others, and many Americans began hating Pedrosa after Pedrosa almost cost Hayden the title two years back.

You know, in Spain, Pedrosa is a huge national hero, along the lines of Rossi in Italy. The Spaniards don't think Pedrosa is a, "robot," or without personality. In fact, if you heard him talk in his native tongue, (and understood him), you might feel differently about him. Remember, when you hear him speaking English, it's not his native tongue, he's not as elloquent in English, and it's arguably not fair to judge him based on comments he makes in English.

As you know, motogp is HUGE in Spain; Spain being the only country that has three events every year. And while you were all busy, bad-mouthing Pedrosa, did you notice he won the first two events in Spain this year, (Jerez and Catalunya)? And if last week's performance is any indication, he stands an excellent chance of winning this Sunday in Valencia.

Like it or not, the top three riders in motogp right now are: Stoner, Rossi, and Pedrosa. It was true last year and it's true again this year. The point standings don't lie. Yes, his manager Puig is a bit of a gas-bag, but Pedrosa is a great rider. Whaddaya say we cut the guy a break?

Elton

I agree with you Elton on the top the riders right now. I don't think I have ever questioned his riding ability, his potential to win a championship, nor have I at any point been on the Nicky bandwagon of blind support. I clearly have stated he isn't even my favorite rider.

I do think your point about English as a second language is a good one. A point I do tend to forget.

I don't think his grasp of the engligh language is what makes him come off as a prick. His manager definitely doesn't help his popularity, but he has done quite a good job of alienating himself as well. Look at the rivalry between him and Lorenzo. It is reminiscent of Rossi and Biaggi. In reference to Pedrosa you are talking about two different camps, two different rivalries, on common factor........ the guy is a whiny prick.
