Joel,
I used to feel the same way about NASCAR. Then a friend of mine, (who knows I'm a motorhead and a motorsports enthusiast), gave me free tickets to see the Firecracker 500 at Dover Downs.
All I can say is, "Wow!" Incredible. And if you think these guys don't have skill, you need to watch them going around a banked turn, three abreast, with only an inch or two separating them, at 185mph! That's unbelievable! Made me a fan.
I hear people, (especially sportbike enthusiasts), badmouthing drag racing also. I've been to Raceway Park in Englishtown, NJ, a bunch of times, and let me tell you, there's nothing like the sound of a top fuel, nitro burning dragster doing the 1/4 mile in under 5 seconds! 8,000+, (yes, that's right, Eight thousand!), horsepower out of a supercharged large block, (500 cubic inch) engine. Makes F1 look silly, at least power wise.
F1 is fantastic too. Great machines, great handling, great tracks, incredible corner speeds. I love it.
Of course, they all take a backseat to motogp for me, but if it's got an engine, I'll watch people racing it. I love 'em all!
