I've had a cold for about 10 days now. I used to take albuterol daily, and it helped; I could breathe like I used to. But ever since I became sick, my inhaler doesn't do anything for me. I visited my doctor, used the nebulizer, was put on prednisone... still nothing.

All I want to know is, is this because of my cold? Should I just wait? Earlier this year, I was very active, I participated in cross country, field hockey, and was usually outside after school. Now any activity that requires the smallest amount of physical exertion, such as walking up the stairs renders me breathless, wheezy, light-headed, etc.

Any kind of respiratory virus can cause a big flare up in asthma symptoms so it definitely could be your cold. The best thing you can do is take it easy, let the cold run its course, and give your body a chance to heal.

It may take a week or two after the cold for everything to return to normal, but be sure to check with your doctor if your breathing gets any worse.
