Notepad dropping strokes

I had an occasion to use Notepad today and had a problem getting it to work reliably. It occasionally erases strokes I've just made on the screen. It acts like Grafitti is processing the stroke instead of Notepad. That is, the stroke shows up on the screen (with a dot showing where the stroke began), then erases the stroke when I lift the pen.

It seems to be more likely to occur if I am writing quickly and there is very little time between strokes. I can get it to occur predictably if I try to enter a series of short downward strokes (as if I were starting the letter i). The problem seldom occurs if I write slowly.

I seem to recall a preference setup that allows Grafitti input from anywhere on the screen, but I can't find it.

Anyone else seen this?
Anyone know of a solution?
 
If you run Tealscript or have Write Anywhere Graffiti activated.....yep I've seen this.

The digitizer is fooled by these two programs if they are running in "write anywhere mode" even though you are in notepad. The darn thing just acts funny.

Try turning off the "WA" and see if that fixes it.......if you aren't running this or similar WA program......well I've got no idea.
 
Well since you don't specify which device you are actually running and you are in the T forum - one must surmise that you are running a device that might have Write Anywhere option found on T3, T5, TX's, LD etc.

If you have a device with a BT indicator on the status bar you'll see next to it a squilley [sic] line. This is the write anywhere option. If you don't have a device with a status bar at the bottom (ie T, T2) then it's a moot point.

The other issue could also be a screen protector....if these are installed somewhat incorrectly and you start writing on them they can put pressure in other areas of the screen and as such....result in your symptoms - possibly.

Specify which device you are running and I might have more specific ideas.
 
I have a T3 and have run into this ocassionally. When you open Notepad, by default it opens a new note with a cursor blinking in the titile field. If WA is active and you start to write on the screen, Notepad thinks you are labelling your note using grafitti.

On the T3, you just need to tap on the little "squiggle" icon in the statusbar at the bottom of the screen to turn off the write anywhere feature so that it knows you are drawing rather than grafittiing. Alternatively, when writing in the Notepad you have to hold the stylus on the screen for a brief pause before beginning to write so that it recognizes that you are writing rather than grafittiing.
 
Thanx guys. The squiggle was what I was looking for. I remembered turning it on once, but thought it was in the prefs. Forgot about the toolbar toggle. Problem solved.
