Not getting paid for job

I ended up getting a job repairing computers, at a local computer store. The owner said that he wanted to see how I perform, then determine if he wanted to hire me or not. I worked from 9-6 monday through saturday(54hrs), fixing computers with no complaints. Then all of a sudden he decides he doesn't need me to come in any more. That's fine in all, because I hated the job. The problem with it is that I never got paid. And he refuses to pay me.

Now I am debating if I should go after the guy or not.

Violation 1: Person under the age of 20 working more then 40hrs/week.
Violation 2: Not paying worker for time worked.
Violation 3: Not paying overtime for over 40hrs worked.

What do you think?

well, you can go about it in two ways. One you can do it legally and go to court, there you will lose because you had no contract or any written work correct? or you can take you hand, place it firmly around the guys neck while he writes the check and you make sure that you cash it before he tells the bank not to allow you to. Afterwards, slam his face into a concrete wall and yell "Im Rich James, Bitch" and really stress the bitch. then walk off and plead amnesia

That was poetry.

If you can't intimidate him yourself get someone else. There are plenty of people out there just looking for an opportunity like this.

It's really pathetic when people cheat you out of your money.

Sounds like an agreement to work for free to me. He could argue that and you lose. You weren't actually hired there, so he doesn't have to pay you.

Child labor laws have nothing to do with you being under 20. They're for students under the age of 18.

You were never hired, only hired workers get paid. Sounds like you let yourself get screwed.

still he did work, and that isn't fair imo. id just wait outside his store scaring people away/telling them not to go in. i figure that eventually he'll lose double or triple what he shoudl have paid you, and htat's more htan fair.

Unfortuneatly.. the guy does have an advantage over you, because technically he didnt hire you, then technically you volunterred for the job, so technically he doesnt have to pay you. I know its crap, but thats just the was the cookie crumbles. Build a bridge and get over it, sorry to be blunt, but thats what you have to do.

It's called an understood contract. He knew you were doing work for him and let you do it anyway, knowing that payment would be expected. You are fully within your rights to charge him for the labor, as a matter of fact because you never decided on a price you can charge whatever you want. Legally if someone walks over to your house and starts mowing your yard, and you watch them do this. Then they can charge you whatever they want for the service. Ah, the wonders of the American legal system... anyway get you a lawyer and sue his ass.
