This first book in the Philip Pullman Trilogy is gathering steam.

Nicole Kidman is signed on as Mrs Coulter, and new Bond Daniel Craig is apparently lined up to plan Lord Asriel, contrary to what cinescape thinks.

Thoughts? Cast wish list?
 
glad someone noticed. never knew about nicole as coulter. i want to get the role of will but hes not in it until subtle knife.
 
Why are they calling it The Golden Compass?? :mad:

I'm going to be pissed off if they've changed the name of the book for the film version.
 
Ah fantastic, Nicole is definitely signed! she would make the perfect Coulter. I finished reading these books for a second time a few months ago...i really love them :)
 
I'm a little worried about these films, because I read somewhere that they were taking all the religious references out for fear of offending Christian groups in the US...

... but, without religion, what are the books? I thought the religious angle was central to the whole plot. :confused: :(
 
I'm annoyed (if the rumours are true...) that any references to religion/Christianity are not in the film. the entire point of the trilogy is to question christianity/heaven/hell/souls/God. Pullman is a known atheist and offering NL trilogy as an antidote to the overtly christian message that Lewis (believes &) extols in parady in The Lion the Witch & the Wardrobe.
Still, that asides, good casting in Nicole K - I would've preferred someone a bit darker for Lord A ... but suitable actors seemed to have been snapped up by the Harry Potter films.
 
I always wanted Sean Bean to be Lord Asriel. Even though the books may not describe him as such, for some reason I always pictured him as in 40's with brown hair, intelligent, not the most beautiful person but fiercely intelligent. Daniel Craig just doenst do that for me.
 
I just hope they get these films spot-on and don't change too much. The books are fabulous - it would be a shame to lose everything that makes them so special.

I'm not a huge Nicole Kidman fan - I just hope she can so teh role justice.

I must say I'm impressed. Nicole Kidman and Dakota Blue RicharRAB just ARE Mrs Coulter and Lyra in that shot of them together. Lyra with the Gyptians also looks just as I pictured it. This is going to blow The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe out of the water.
