The red and white simply mirror the colors found on the US national flag. The blue field with the white star pay homage to the Bonnie Blue Flag. The top scroll with the date May 20, 1775 recalls the date that the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence was signed in NC. And the bottom scroll reading April 12, 1776 commemorates the date of the Halifax Resolves.
