normal stress and strain calculations?

im doing a rubber in tension lab where we load a specimen with weights. we load and unload the specimen with 50lbs six times, taking the dimensions after each loading and unloading. we need to calculate the stress and strain and plot the results. so you know how for the engineering stress and strain calculations, it calls for the initial length or area. would I use the the dimensions from the unloaded specimen at the start of the experiment as the initial for all six of the loadings, or would i use the dimensions of the zero loading just before each individual 50lb loading in my calculations?
yeah, i think that's kinda the point of the lab, to see how the stress/strain change as the loadings are repeated.. because we also have a 5 min waiting period, before we started loading with a different weight
