Hello- I have nerve damage in my arm and lower back problems. I have been on 2 Norco's 10/325 5 to 6 times a day for several months. The Norco's worked well, I still had pain but could work trough it. My Doctor just changed me to 10mg of Oxycodone 6 times a day and its not work at all hardly. I get pain relief for about 1 hour. Certainly not work as good as the Norco's. HELP...does any one have any advice, suggestions or experiences like this.

Thanks,
Doug in Pain.

Are you treating with a Pain Management doctor? You may benefit from what are called Long Acting medications. These are taken 1-3x a day and then you treat break through pain with meRAB like Norco, Percocet, etc.

Thanks for the reply. My doctor is a neutragist (not sure on spelling) and I assume a pain management doctor. I assume this due to the paper work i filled out when I First saw him. Note: that was a year ago.

The norcos worked fine, but due to the Acetaminophen I can't take them any longer. Now I have to take a new medication that is also hard on the liver and they have to change me to something else.... like the Oxycodone.

I have called my doctor and I am waiting for a response, but I just wondering if this is a common problem. Do two 10/325 Norcos generally work better then Oxycodone 10mg? I was under the impression that Oxycodone was stronger!?

Thanks again for your reply!

A neurologist? That would not be the same as a Pain Management physician, though he/she may be willing to act in that capacity. Along the way you'll want to be sure of what each doctor's experience and board certification is.

Well, if you are to convert doses, I would say that you are on a lower dose now, even though oxycodone is more potent. When doctors switch, they tend to calculate lower. I would tell you're doctor that you're not getting the same amount of relief. Maybe he will suggest a long-acting medication and a breakthough medication.

Thanks for the info folks. I contacted my doc yesterday and he increased me to 15 mg of Oxycodone. I wend back on my norcos when the oxycodone didn't work so today I will try it again and see if the 15 mg helps more.

I will post again later to let you know how that worked.

Also is there a formula or calculator that compares the two medications?

Thanks,
Doug

Doug: A Pharmacist can usually calculate what equals what. When I had my back surgery they put me back on my oral Opana which didn't work so they wanted to switch me to MS contin. They pulled in the pharmacist who had a way to calculate what in opana = dosage of MS Contin.
