Nonfiction book advice please?

I have to do an AP summer reading assignment for English, and I have chosen the books
Blood on the Moon: The Assassination of Abraham Lincoln by Edward Steers Jr.
The Kennedy Assassination: 24 Hours After by Steve Gillon
Are they A.P. level books in your opinion? And if they are, is there another book you would recommend? Thank you in advance :)

I have not read either of these books but 75% of my reading is nonfiction. I did look up both these books before answering your question and spent some time going through their respective reviews.

I would go with Blood on the Moon. The author seems to be well respected in his field and the reviews were highly favorable.

The other book is essentially a recounting of the 24 hours after the J.F.K. assassination and L.B.J.'s reaction to it. I think you can do better than it.

Added: I am making an assumption it has to be history or does it?

My question is, What grade level are we talking about and how did you pick these two particular books? Are they off a list? Are you constrained by subject? I hesitate making any recommendations not knowing what if any interests you have in history. I will repost if you care to add additional details.
