Nokia N95-3 Screen Problems, please help.

I have an n95-3. The screen recently went black and stopped working, but the phone still works. I purchased a replacement screen and it arrived today. When I installed it, this screen will only stay white, but the phone works. I'm guessing this means that my flex cable is bad, but short of changing it out and hoping it fixes the problem, is there anyway to visually tell if it's done for?

Thanks

I had the same thing happen with my N95-3. I thought the screen on it when bad but it was actually one of the ribbons that connects the screen to the processing board itself. I bought a replacement board off of ebay from a company but when I got it, I realized it wasn't OEM and had troubles with the buttons registering. To answer your question, I doubt there is anyway of checking other than replacing the screen, which you did. The only other piece is the ribbon cables, buttons and front camera which all one piece. If you hook up the phone to an external monitor and everything is fine, then I'd say it's safe to assume that the ribbon piece is the culprit. If you can find the piece for less than $50, I'd be very interested myself.

I went ahead and took my phone completely apart, and it was the flex cable, broken almost all the way across it. I went ahead and ordered a new one off of ebay (something like $15 shipped) and it works, but I broke the head off of one of the screws and broke a piece of the plastic inside also. So now i'm waiting on a new metal housing and new set of screws to get here lol. Using a junk *** phone i bought from a pawn shop to get me by, can't wait to have my n95 back.

How do you think that happened with the ribbon? Is it something that just happens over time with use or becuase it was dropped or what? Curious to know since I'm still using my N95-3 and would still like to keep using it.

Hmm I remember something about that cable on my n95-1... I remember thinking I had better protect it better, put a piece of tape over it or something, this is just from memory from a while ago..

Yeah, I would assume just from daily usage. I've had this phone forever. Finally got all my pieces and put my phone back together, and now the earpiece speaker doesn't work. I think I'm done messing with it. Everything works on it but the ear speaker, I think I'll just sell it and start looking for a new phone.
