Nokia N80 vs. Nokia N80ie (internet edition)

I think the only difference between the n80 and the n80ie is an internet folder in the n80ie with special internet apps and services.

If I buy a n80, is there a simple firmware update which would add this internet folder and make the n80 the same as the newer n80ie?

I would also like to know how people like the mp3 player in the device. and more specifically, how the headphone adapter performs, is it annoying? does the connect seem loose which may break with bumbs or tugs?

thanks a lot, any response would be appreciate as I'm trying to make the best cell phone purchase for myself

N80IE comes in a different colors and had some internet features in OS, You can actually flash your n80 to IE. Not much different.

just wifi detector shows up on standby screen etc. yahoo go, search.

Go ahead and save some $ and buy the standard N80. The n80ie FW is now available on the NSFU so other than the included 512mb memory card their is no difference at all other than physical color schemes. Bronze is an exclusive IE color Scheme and the other is black which is available w/ the standard version of the N80

lol...guess we posted at the same time.

The wifi detector is available on active standby w/ the FW update as well as the other things mentioned.

For me the main advantage of the N80IE is the voip possibilities. On the downside you will lose about 2mb of ram- which you'll miss when surfing- but this may well be tweaked in future upgrades. All the other differences - Yahoo etc. can be added to a nonIE N80 as individual apps.

just be careful you know what you're doing if your flashing ur n80 so it can be a n80ie. make sure you read around here or ask some of the more experienced members in what to do etc. other than dat, get the n80 and add the ie stuff later. =) but black is sexy though

wait so the n80ie comes with the yahoo go app but the n80 doesn't?

i'm assuming this is an older version of yahoo go since the beta isn't out yet for the n80?

thanks for replies! I apreciate it.

one more question which I don't think will be quite as easy to answer.

is it worth all the money to buy this rig? for me a little under $600 CDN is what I have found including shipping and/or taxes.

I tried N73 & E61 before I bought N80ie.. I can tell you that I am very satisfied with it. Initially bought this to keep it for couple of weeks. But now I have decided to keep it. The only downside is the battery. I can get thru my day easily.. but if you are heavy user I suggest you buy a spare battery with charger.

Can someone tell me the difference between these two N80's ?

The black has only 3 months support/warranty is $100 more expensive, while the silver one is the IE version and is $100 cheaper, shouldn't this be the other way around ? also the silver one has 1 year warranty.

Is the black one more expensive, just because of the color ? also is there a link on how to flash a regular N80 -> N80Ie w/o turning it into a brick ?

Thanks

The mp3 function is fine, when the file is already set in mp3 format, however as an aac (directly from the CD), the labelling option sucks, especially when you cannot even change the file name since it will read it as "unknown artist." All the time, which made it harder organize my music, however the accesbility to the custom equlizer settings and volume adjustments are alot more convenient than the Sony Ericsson in my opinion.

thanks everyone for your info.

I am almost sold on the n80, but have one more worry.. battery life.
I heard its not very good and am wondering if it would be an issue if I purchased this device.

My average daily usage I think would be as follows:

1. I commute to and from school each day which is about an hour each way, I think I would use the mp3 during that time, so about 2hrs mp3 per day.

2. I would like to do a little browsing via wifi per day, maybe 20-30 mins each day.

3. And a little bit of talking lol... who needs friends when you have a device like this in your pocket.

Charging every night is fine for me, I do it now with my razr because it's also my alarm clock.

what do you think? give me some feedback. I know having an extra battery is an option, but I would rather not have to do that with a device like this.
