Nokia N73 "memory full delete some data"

I've seen a lot of reports of people getting the message "memory full delete some data" on their Nokia N73. The simple solution is to remove some files to free up some space.

Another solution is to format the phone to clear out some 'junk'. Here's how to format:

  • Turn off the phone
  • Hold down these keys while turning the phone back on: 3 + * + green call key
  • Do not let go of these keys until it asks about your location
After this is done you should gain back some space

The format process will delete all stored memory on the phone, but not on the memory card. Make sure you backup anything you want to save or it will be lost.

You may encounter a situation in which your phone memory gets full although you store quite a little information on it. This problem might be caused by a memory leak problem of running applications. - An application may run even if you do not know about it. - If you terminate these applications you can free up your phone memory without reformatting it.

The solution described below does the job if you have a Nokia N73:

1. Start the Task Manager of the N73 (You can do it by holding the menu button pressed for a few seconds.)

2. As the list of running tasks appear in the top left corner as an icon list check if there is anything that is currently unnecessary. (E.g. the music player is running although you do not listen music now.)

3. Switch to the task that you want to quit.

4. Select options and quit.

That is all, the phone memory allocated by the stopped application is freed now, so you can use your phone normally.

In my case the music player consumed more than 20MB, when I recognized that I'm running out of memory....

Yeah thats fine, but what happens to my softwares that I had already installed in my phone?

I got the same problem and almost tried all proposed solutions I found in the web. After all attempts and failures, I resorted to firmware update. I downloaded it in Nokia's website and install it in my pc, then connected my N73. Mind you, this is the best solution I think there is but I suggest that you opt to simpler solutions first. Firmware update could be a little complicated but that was the one which saved my phone from the trash.
