Nokia N73 Memory Card

My memory card has just arrived. i have already put some phone no's on the phone.

1) do i need to format the card? or is it already formatted?

2) do i now copy the numbers from the phone memory to the sim card memory? using tools>memory>options>backup phone mem ?
