Nokia N70 Charger Socket Broke (Internal Pin)!!!

I just wanted to give everyone a word of warning...

The new small charging pins Nokia use, as everyone here already knows, are very fragile. But so are the charging SOCKETS!!!

I have a N70, and over the past year, the pin of the charger has gotten tweaked and bent a bit. You know what Im talking about if you have one of these new nokias. All 3 of my chargers (car, home, work) are tweaked. Just a little bent, still works just fine, but bent.

Well, after using bent chargers for the past couple of months, what do you, the INTERNAL PIN of the socket (phone), broke from the socket and lodged itself in the female end of the charger pin.

This in effect, turns the phone quickly into a brick. Theres no way to charge it anymore. You have to REPLACE the damn socket. And to do that, you have to disassemble the phone, and, i assume, have to solder in a new socket. Which I dont even know how/where to buy. Just a huge pain!

I live in the US, bought the N70 online, and because of this, was without warranty (which i didnt know, but is a rant for another post) Cost me 80 bucks to make my phone usable again.

I said all that to say this:
1.) The new, tinytiny charger pins SUCK!
2.) If youre using a slightly bent charger, STOP. It will break your phone sooner or later.

Most Nokia phones are modular in design. If the phone is out of warranty, and assuming you can get a replacement socket, and know how to disassemble/reassemble the phone, it should be no problem swaping out the broken socket for a new one.

Or buy a secondary battery + battery charger (maybe a desktop cradle kit on ebay would have all that)

That way, you always swap batteries, never use the nokia charger.

Right but thats the problem. Its the only new Nokia I have, and the new Nokias use different chargers than the old Nokias. Its not so easy to find the socket. Plus what am i gonna do, brick a different phone to fix this one? So that means you really need to buy a socket individually, but like i said, i dont even know what to call it (part number). Just try googling replace nokia charger socket. its a joke. cant even get if off ebay or something, cause i dont know the part number. also, who wants to take apart and solder a $500 phone? Not me!

And, One could buy a battery, but thats another 50 bucks. and you still cant charge the phone. you know? thats ridiculous. whats more ridiculous is the design of the pin. it is, by nature, the most active, prone to accident, used constantly, connector on the phone. i mean its getting plugged and unplugged 1-2 a day. I LOVED the old charger socket. It was big, easy to find in the dark, while driving, whatever. i knew this would happen from day one. first thing i didnt like about it was the stupid new pin. the point is, IF you happen to already have a tweaked charger, be very careful. its no fun

I never had a problem with the new pin. Maybe you shouldnt have been too rough on it.

And a battery on ebay is about 10-15$. You'll find a CRADLE for the battery + battery for 20-25$ on ebay. The cradle charges the battery OUTSIDE your phone.

So when battery is empty, you take it out, and put in the full one, put the empty one on the cradle.

Man, I love my phone above all else. I mean if youre on this forum, im sure you understand. Im not "rough" with the phone. It is my most prized possession. I have however tripped on the cord... I have however gone around a corner to fast in my car, and watched the phone slide off the seat. Accidents happen. Its not about not having respect for the phone, its about bad design. If you had an old Nokia, you would know how much better the old charger pin was. 25-35$ (and the wait/unknowns around ordering from ebay - let me know if you ever find my 80$ mobilemmc ) is still more than i should of had to spend (or deal with) for a part like a stupid charging socket.

Ive had the old one before. I can see how it is more fragile, but i havent had the small one cause any problem so far and I charge 3-4 times a day (heavy on data and wifi)

Just buy from a trusted seller with thousands of rep points.

Look, very easy to find on ebay

Just to make all clear, it is already fixed. I just felt it was something, that because of its small size and fragility and use, everybody should look out for.

And I really do understand what youre saying, and i thought about getting a desk charger. I mean im all for saving money... But i mean, how happy would you be if you couldnt charge your e61 through the phone?! It is the most simple, most important and oft used cable/receptor on the phone. It must work. All other options aside, It must work... I mean, its how you charge the PHONE...

ok
but still
something's clearly wrong with your handling of the chargers if you bent them all

Be careful next time?
