The first picture of what’s thought to be the Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet, previously known as the Nokia Bandit, has leaked online.
Emerging via Windows Phone Central, the picture shows a large, angular handset in red and clearly running Windows Phone 8. It’s pictured alongside another smartphone which would appear to be the Nokia Lumia 920, Nokia Lumia 925 or Nokia Lumia 1020, all of which are roughly the same size except for thickness. Whichever model it is, the Lumia 1520 is enormous by comparison.
Windows Phone Central doesn’t name the source which leaked the image to it, and adds that it has not vetted them. But, while the site reports that it can’t verify with certainty that the image is legit it adds it has ‘a suspicion that it is accurate’.
That’s partly to do with the presence of what looks like an optional back cover, probably for wireless charging as with the Nokia Lumia 925 and Lumia 1020. There’s also the fact that the front fascia matches up pretty much perfectly with a previously leaked front panel.

Another convincing bit of evidence is the etched text at the bottom, which reads ‘proto.nokia.com’, something which is well established as being present on most Nokia tester phones.
We can also see that there’s an extra Live Tile column to take full advantage of the larger display, something which has previously been rumoured regarding the GDR3 update, which introduces 1080p screen support and quad-core processor support – both things the Lumia 1520 is said to be packing.
There’s little else to discern from the snap, and so far the only other details we know of are the rumoured 6-inch 1080p display, polycarbonate unibody, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor (believed to the Snapdragon 800) and a 20-megapixel PureView camera.
Rumours indicate Nokia is gearing up to launch the Lumia 1520 in September with the device hitting retail in the following months running up to Christmas, ie: October/November.
