Nokia E70 battery life sucks... why?

My E70 is rev:

1.0610.05.07
30-05-06
RM-10

I get absolutely horrible battery life. I am using the original Nokia BL-6C battery, and I get ~8 hours of standby time! The reception in my area is weak, but I didn't think it should consume that much extra from a weak signal. Is thee another explanation? Does anyone know of anything I can configure to improve the battery life? This is ridiculous...

I think that the E70 has 3G, correct?

Unless you are in Europe, turn off 3G, just have it be in GSM mode or else it will constantly search for a 3G connection that it won't find (in the US)

I believe you can turn off the WCDMA 2100 portion by selecting "GSM only" or something like that. I'm guessing your E70 is constantly "looking" for that 3G signal by default.

Also do your other typical battery maintenance tweaks. Lower the brightness, turn Bluetooth off when you're not using it, don't let it search for wifi, and of course, switch it to GSM only. Drain your battery to nothing and then charge it fully to train the battery properly also.

Ok, so I set the screen brightness to it's lowest setting, I've always had the WiFi search off anyway, and I've disabled UMTS network search. It's better, but I'm still getting only 12hrs or so of standby time. Is there any other Nokia Series 60 v3 phone that gets good battery life? I mean, I would like to be able to go a couple days without having to plug in if necessary (for business trips).

What's your activity like on the phone? How many texts do you send, pictures do you take, and phonecalls do you make? How long are you browsing the web and with which connection?

That's just it... I don't think I use the phone that much. Maybe 1/2 hour total of calls during that time, and only a few SMS'. Only one picture was taken. Maybe 15 minutes GPRSing a map with Google. Again, roughly 12hrs from a full charge.

Not a lot of activity I don't think...

In a typical domestic business trip, from removing it from the charger it's almost dead by the time I get to the hotel. On a overseas flight, I am guaranteed to have to charge along the way or turn it off. It's really getting annoying. I miss my old P800... it would last a few days.

Do you put the phone in offline mode during flights? I'm starting to think you have a bad battery. Did you check the authenticity of the battery at Nokia.com?

if you can't get it to be longer, peep the N73. Mostly the sam features, about the same price, no wifi, but the battery lasts for freakin ever.

I am planning to get the Nokia E70, can somebody confirm if the battery life is an issue? I've been told my numerous people that the battery life is amazing, just this first case where it's the opposite

I used it, and wrote a review on it. The BL-6C battery is really nice. I'd say it certainly lasts longer than the N80, but not as long as the N73. If you're in the states, you can also check out my auction for the US version (E70-2) I picked up from the Nokia store in Chicago?

I don't know about amazing, but the battery life is definitely good. There is sometihng else going on in this case (bad battery?).

I probably did 45 mins of calls yesterday, about an 1 1/2 hours of web browsing via edge (stuck in a car waiting for people), and I wasn't down _any_ bars last night when I plugged it in.

I've turned off 3G and search-for-wifi, but I've never touched the default screen brightness.

Wee, I switched to an E50, and the difference in battery life is amazing. I can disconnect the phone from the charger before I go to bed, plug it in in the morning and it still has full battery bars. It takes only 5 minutes of charging before reporting the battery is full again.

Maybe I have a bad E70, I don't know. Is there any way to reset it back to factory settings? Maybe I'll check it again when the next firmware revision is available...

Thanks for all your help.

Did you ever figure out what the problem was with your e70?

I recently picked up one up for use with t-mobile and have tried 2 different OEM batteries. Unfortunately, I can’t get more than 6 hours of life before it shuts off.

I've set Network Mode to “GSM”, shut off bluetooth, and set “Show Availability” of Wireless LAN setting to “Never”. I’m retrieving email every 30 minutes, but other than that have been only made a few calls.

I know battery life can be affected by mis-configured network settings, but have had no luck trying different options.

Thanks.

I use an e70-2 on tmo and have no battery issue what so ever. I use the web browser a lot and always charge at the end of the day no matter what the bars show. I never tweak the battery saver , always full bright, use wifi whenever. I never have had battery issues with this device. I,d try another battery before I'd try another phone. The e70-2 with the latest f/w rocks......... my 02 cents

I don't have any problem with mine. I have BB connect online 24/7 and bluetooth and can still last more than a day (not sure how long cuz I charge every night regardless)

If you use alot of wifi that'll kill the battery but other than that BL-6C kicks arse.
