Is it pointless to get a smartphone/pda like the Nokia e62/cingular 3125 if you are not getting a $40/a month extra unlimited data plan? Say I get the e62, will I be able to update and use a majority of the features (not email, internet, etc.) without having a data plan?
You will be charged by the kb and will rack up high charges fast if you use it often. You can get different plans that are not the unlimited $40 data plan like the $19.99 unlimited Media Max200 plan.
Search the threads as there is a lot of info on this. There is a Nokia e62 thread already.
yes you can do that but just ask them to remove the media net pay per use feature so you dont accidentally inccur tons of charges, without internet you basically have a phone and a pda. Dont forget though if you are planing on buying it from cingular in order to get the rebate you must have an unlimited pda data plan, if you dont have this and mail in the rebate they will send you a letter saying is was rejected. they know this because when they process the rebate they look at the phone on the account as well as the contract and data plan. oh yeah and rebates require a 2 year contract. if you need anymore help just pm me.
well i have no use for the internet, but for example, would I still be able to sinc my phone to my computer for contacts and such. Also, would I still be able to use media players and AIM (if it was linked to my text messages, not the internet)?
Yes you could use all of those functions except aim. The reason why is because even if it uses text instead of data the phone wtill has to use data to sign you onto aim and get your buddy list and update it when someone signs on or off
Seems like you already have your answer. Just looking for a co-signer. LoL. If that's the case, why even get the nokia e62? LoL. Get a razr w/ itunes or media player. No real reason to have a PDA and not really use the data portion. If the form-factor is whats drawing you, then go for it.
