I have gone through two E62 phones in one month due to WSOD. I am using a 2 gig MMC card and Blackberry connect to my company server. Are there any suggestions as to how to avoid this problem on my 3rd phone?

also what brand of minisd are you using? (hopefully you didn't really cram a MMC into that slot...) Some of the cheaper brands are known to cause problems.

You may also want to try unbranding it using this guide: http://symbianguru.typepad.com/welcome/2006/12/finally_a_java_.html. You can still re-download and configure your blackberry software, but at least you won't have that nasty cingular garbage everywhere.

I found that the phone only has about 14.8MB (on average) of ram to run applications after boot-up. My WSODs usually occur whan doing alot of browsing or browsing and doing something memory intensive like listening to a podcast, I think there may be a memory leak associated with browsing. I use Best TaskManager to monitor my RAM. If I have no applications running and RAM is < 14MB, I reboot the phone by turning it off and then back on. I usually don't have more than one WSOD every 10 days or more. I also am running a 2GB Kingston card which doesn't seem to be effecting ther WSODs. Hope this helps, I do still really like the phone, but I am kinda a Nokia fan boy though.

I also read on Tommi's S60 blog that by unbranding the phone you do so at your own risk and void and Manufacturer's warranty..not sure if that is true, I would like to rebrand my E62 but am afraid of voiding the warranty. For those who have unbranded e62's, what amount of operating RAM do you have just after rebooting the phone I thought I heard somebody say it was 10MB higher than with Cingular's RAM. In this case just under 25MB which would be awesome.

WSOD is White Screen of Death and is named after what happens to your phone. The screen goes completely white and the phone won't power on.

I am getting the WSOD. The only option is to send it back to Cingular. The mini SD card (sry) is probably a cheaper one. I have seen on other posts that this is not a expansion card issue. Is there any way that the card could be causing the problem?

Can anyone confirm this? I've got an E62 coming home next week and I just assumed it would have the same amount of available RAM as my old E61. If this isnt the case and debranding it is a solution, i'm all over it. Rcadden..do you remember what you were getting after a boot....memory I mean.

When I said WSOD I mean the phone is bricked, dead, like need to send it to the manufacturer to revive it. I actually had a 3rd phone do the same thing in less than 30 days. I've given up. I now have a treo 680 and I love it. The Nokia E62 is the biggest POS electronic device I have ever had.

Yeah try changing the product code as in the guide rcadden provided us with... I did back in jan. And its been all good ever since! Java is fkawless and i gained memory because of the cingular crap that DIDN'T come with it! (i miss the IM client that came with it. Where can i get that back?)
