The E61 has WiFi
The E61 has UMTS 2100 (not usable in the U.S./Canada, but of some use for international roaming, e.g. Japan)
The E62 has some cingular customizations like the IM client, and reportedly the "crippled" handling of java apps that are signed by Cingular.
Possibly also keyboard layout. There are several different E61 keyboard layouts.

Thanks GT I am on a 30 day trial with the E62 but am looking at buying either the 61 or 62 outright as i don't like contracts. I do like the 30 days to try it and am a happy cingular customer...

If cost is not a factor and you don't care about having a U.S. warranty, the E61. It is obviously more capable, and an unlocked phone really works out better for the international traveller.

On the other hand, you can get the E62 for free or almost free if you are a new Cingular customer. Check Cingular's website or Amazon for pricing.

I guess the basic question is probably, is it worth paying extra for WiFi, an unlocked phone, or extra overseas roaming capabilities.

The answer for me is "yes", but then I'm not a Cingular customer anymore and have no intention of going back to Cingular, so an E62 isn't an option.

Interesting as i am a Cing customer and can upgrade to the e62 for 99 bucks. BUT that requires a two year commitment....Things change so much it's very hard to commit for two years. I like to change so much and get bored with the same phone anyway....

e61 without a doubt. MABYE if there were an unbranded e62, I'd consider giving up the wifi, but probably not. WiFi is kickass to have as an option, and something I've missed when switching to a non-WiFi phone. But the biggest thing is the Cingular 'customizations' to the e62 firmware... every single time Cingular gets involved in Series 60 firmware changes, they screw something up compared to unbranded... they did it on the 3600, 3620, 6620, and 6682... I'm sure the e62 is no different.

The E62 has 2.0 bluetooth where the E61 has 1.1. Also, the E62 has a 235 MHZ processor where the E61 has a 206 MHZ one. The E62 has a 2.5mm headphone jack where the E61 has a pop port. Hope that helps. By the way, I haven't had any problems with my Cingular branded E62.
