I noticed now that my nokia E61 doesnt show the name of the person when they call. Now that I think about it the phone has never showed the name.. Just the number only...Any suggestions to why ?

Probably due to the formatting of your contacts phone numbers.

For example, you got someone entered as 1555555555, but when they call, the caller ID is 555555555, hence it may skip out on it.

Also try remove the ()- formatting. You can't write it on the phone, but when I sync with outlook, they get passed on ( +1 (555)555-555 )

However, I havent tested if I get the names to show up. Im too lazy to try now, I got no other phone to call myself with

I don't have my E61 yet, so I can't test, but I hope that's not true. All my numbers are entered in international format (since I travel a LOT) - that way when I'm overseas, the calls go through. Like this: +1999666333 for the USA, for instance. Does that mean caller ID won't work when I'm inside the country? That's *really* lame if that's the case.

I've never had any cell phone show names for people not in the phone book...

I don't think T-Mobile supports names on caller ID at all. I'm not sure *any* cellular carrier does.

PS - Just noticed you're in Canada. Maybe they do there, no idea. That would explain it, though. I don't think that's "normal".

Yes we do..It's called name display. If I where to call from a payhone and called the 6126 it whould show up as "bell payhone" the number below it. If you call the e61 it just shows the number.

My e61 shows the name if the caller is listed in my contacts once, but if the number corresponds to 2 different contacts, it will only show the number. I've never EVER seen it display the name of someone who's not in my contacts.......EVER.

I'm pretty sure that's not standard for the majority of the world. At least, none of the places in Europe I've stayed at had name-based caller ID, and the US certainly doesn't either.

I think Canada only has the E62 for sale from Nokia, so if you have an E61, it's a Euro/Asia phone, right? Maybe that's why? Not acquainted with the 6126, but was it a phone offered in Canada directly? Maybe that's why it supported that functionality?

I could be totally wrong, too. Just guessing based on prior experience overseas.

Im not talking about dual entries.. If you have a dual entry then the name and number should up.. Just like if someone from a payhone calls u it should show that its a payphone. But it's not on my E61.

The + replaces the 011. It'd be +1 555 555 5555 *OR* 011 1 555 555 5555. It depends on your carrier if they accept the +.

The problem the OP is having is unrelated. He's used to a non-standard feature his provider offers, that his current phone doesn't support. Most phones don't.
