Nokia e5

Overall it's an upgrade over the e63.

However you are not going to find many users talking about it or using it around here since it's not that much of an improvement over the e72.

IMO unless you really like that type of form factor, I would hold off on getting it until WOM World is over. More information about the e7 is expected to surface, which many believe (myself included) is the true successor to the e72...

I like the e63. My main issues with the e63 are lack of 3g in Europe (at least for the NAM model) and lack of built-in GPS, both of which are fixed in the e5. A faster processor, more RAM and a hardware volume control are added bonuses. It would be nice to know if the screen is usable outdoors.

I'd imagine the e7 would be much more expensive, but I'll take a look at the speculation.

The E7 will be a drastic change from the E71-esque form-factor. The E5, simply based on name - is not a TRUE upgrade to the E63.

I'd stick with the E63 until Nokia World is over and you see what products are in the pike. Even the E71 or E72 would be an upgrade from the E63, but I wouldn't go with an E5 if I were you.

Curious why you state E71/E72 would be upgrade but E5 wouldn't? E5 brings HSDPA, updated home screen, 256MB of RAM, FP2. Overall it's a step up from both for a lower price. With the E5 you loose the front cam and hot swappable microSD, display is a bit worse so you need to keep in mind the pros and cons. If you like this form factor you can't beat the price.

The e5 and the e72 seem rather similar to each other and both seem to be reasonable upgrades to the e63. Ignoring price, I'd probably get the e72, but taking price into account the e5 seems a much better value.

Any other views? Other similar phones in this price range?

Solely by the name, it is not an upgrade. C series is not anywhere near close to the E series. It is not an upgrade, in my opinion. I will take an E71 over it - any day of the week.

I don't dislike the E5 - but I prefer the key cluster configuration on the E71-esque devices. I prefer the keyboard layout on the E71. I prefer the camera on the E72/E73. I prefer a real power button. I prefer the build of the E71.

The software is better, but I have never had an issue with S60v3, regardless of FP, transitions and the like.

The E5 is a good device but it's not for me.

GPS seemed a bit slower, but I didn't not configure the device at all - in terms of a-GPS and positioning server. Didn't have time.

I noticed no difference, however later today I will take the E71 and E5 outside and take a picture for you.

Thanks. One review said the e5 screen was practically unreadable outdoors, which would be a problem for me.

I view the e5 as an e63 with built-in GPS and the ability to do 3g in Europe and the US, plus a faster processor, some updated software and a hardware volume control.

I believe the e63 and the e71 have the same screen, so seems the e5 isn't much worse.

Is the e5 any faster? It has a 600mhz processor v. 369

thanks again

I just checked out a video of the E5 here - Nokia E5. Find it at the conclusion page. The interesting thing is that even with special lighting conditions applied (considering that's a controlled video shooting setup), the phone screen looks very faded. I can only imagine how it will look under a direct sun light.

The screen on the E71 really isn't that vibrant. The E72 blows it away in terms of brightness and colors with the same display settings. I'm entertaining giving the wife the E72 and taking the E71 back for better Google Apps support, but that screen...
