Cingular SE w810i versus unbranded Nokia 8801?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dilemma:
Shopping for new phone. Nearly had my heart set on the Nokia 8801 (actually picked one up...prices around 300ish if you shop around). Today I saw the Sony w810i...and was impressed at the form factor and what's been shoved into it. Edit: for basis of this comparison, assume the price I could get the phone for will be around the same as the Nokia (300ish). Er so it might be unbranded SE version...

I'm typically using it as a phone. I have a blackberry so internet access isn't all that. I think everything on the Sony is a nice to have and not a necessity. Assuming both are within your budget, which would you pick?

A bit of history:
used mostly nokias most my life with a ever so often Motorola variant. This past year I've been using the SE W600i. When it works, it's fine. But I've now gone through...4? 5? I lost count. It's under warranty so Cingular's been sending me new ones to replace the random reboots or loose rotating face or whatever else. I'm hoping it's related to the model number but because of that I thought of going back to trusty ol Nokia...

The 8801 looks hot, I should know, because I got one just for the looks. If you need to do stuff like play MP3's and take pictures the W810i has a Pro duo memory slot that you can expand up to 4GB, a 2 megapixel camera and a LED flash. The W810i has a better screen as well so if you have a data plan you have more screen real estate for mobile browsing. There's also quadband in case you travel to places that use the GSM 900 frequency.

If all that stuff doesn't matter to you, the 8801 is a good phone in it's own right. There's nothing else like it (except the sirocco which is a update to the 8800) so it's pretty damn unique. You may have to wrestle with it a bit with the settings to get it MMS and MediaNet to work with it though.

Then again this is GSM we are talking about here. if Cingular is giving you a significant discount then why not go for both? Still if I had to stick to one choice and I took functionality into account then it would be the W810i for me. Don't get me wrong, the 8801 looks sweet and gets attention, but I find myself going back to my V3i for the MP3 functionality and the 8801 is at best relegated as my "weekend" phone.

I would recommend the w810i. I have owned both phones and I noticed that I get slightly better reception with the w810i on Cingular. The w810i also has more features.
