What is the difference between the two besides bands if any? also I have cingular and my friend has tmobile and he has the 8800 would it be a bad idea to buy his?

there is no big diff about 8801 and 8800 except the phone frequency.
8801 can be use in europe, u.s. canada, latin america and some part of the southern u.s. 850-1800-1900mhz.
8800 can be use in asia, europe, u.s. and canada. 900-1800-1900mhz.
since the 8800 don't carrie by any service provider here in the u.s you can use it to cingular network if it is unlock, but you cannot download anything from cingular bcoz 8800 is program to diff service provider.

but since i have cingular i will be able to use it right? will it still be good even if its just runnin on one band?

Not as good as if you had both bands, and like I said in your other thread, any time you go into an area where 1900mhz is unavailable, your phone will roam on T-Mobile towers until you get back to an area where Cingular uses 1900mhz.
