I just recently picked up a Nokia 6030b (T-Mobile branded) dumbphone as a backup phone and have been fooling around with it over the past couple of days. I'm sure this is pretty standard-fare for these cheapo phones, but I noticed that it comes with an IM client installed which lets me chat on AIM wherever I go. I'm with T-Mobile, and do not have any sort of data plan on my account; no $5.99 T-MobileWeb, no $29.99 Total Internet, no nothing. The IM client works great, but the biggest caveats are obviously that the 6030 is a pretty slow phone, has a low-resolution screen, and obviously doesn't have QWERTY.
My E70-2, however, has none of these holdups. Right now I use IM+ as my AIM client on the E70 (and may end up playing around with the built-in IM client later on), and it works okay. The problem of course, is that with no data plan I end up only being able to use the IM client when I'm within range of a WiFi network.
How am I using AIM for free on my 6030? Is it using text messages to get all the information it needs? (This is no problem, as I have unlimited texting). What AIM clients are available for S60v3 that are able to operate without a data plan under T-Mobile, and how could I set them up to replicate this functionality?
Thanks so much, you guys are great.
