Sounds like either a rogue app which is broken or your firmware needs re-installing. Connect your 5800 to your computer, search for any firmware updates and install them, then use nokia pc suite to uninstall any un-necessary apps.
The 5800 was one of the best phones Ive had as it is very simple and almost bug free, sould take a matter of minutes to fix
