Nokia 5530 XpressMusic wont tell me when i have a message?

It started happening last night, about 6o'clock and since then it wont tell me when i have a message, it doesnt vibrate or come up on the home screen or the message icon isnt in the top right corner, so i have to constantly go into my inbox and check if there are any new messages.

any one know how i can sort this out?
