Nokia 5310 lcd problem

My boyfriend has the Nokia 5310. It was all beat up, so for christmas I bought him a whole new housing for it. He got everything switched to the new housing without hassle. But when he turned the phone back on, the LCD came on, but was blank. You could see the backlight (it came on for the keypad also) but that's it. That's all it will do. I know he can't send it in to be repaired because by opening the phone, any warranty he might have had is now voided. Does anyone know anything about lcds? I'm wondering if maybe he accidentally knocked something loose and that could be causing it, but I don't know anything about it. Can anyone help??
 
Oh..I just asked my boyfriend more about his phone. He said that it is not working at all. Except the screen and keypad lighting up. He said he can't make calls on it or anything. No sound either. So I'm guessing maybe the phone might be useless now. Unless someone knows how it could be fixed.
