Nokia 3250 (stuck at white screen)

I just received a Nokia 3250 as a gift but when I turn it on I get a white screen. I tried to flash the latest firmware but I am unable to do that because the phone is not getting detected by the laptop/winxp. I am really not sure what to do next.

Is it brand new?

Take the battery out, and then put it back in. start the phone.

If that doesn't work, u probably need to do a hard reset. But make sure u have completely charged the battery first.

Yes it brand new and I tried taking the battery out. I followed many debugging steps on the net and none are working. How do I hard reset the phone?
