noise cancelling headphones

I ride the bus a lot and have a lot of people living in my house. Because of this there is constant noise. I'm looking for some noise canceling headphones that I can use on the bus and for my computer. I'd like to keep it
 
i bought the Sennheiser CX300-S listed at the bottom of that^ article about 1.5 years ago, and they are quite good for what they're worth. I use them mostly on the train, and they cancel out pretty much all background/fuzzy noise, though sometimes i can still hear the occasional loud noise, as i dont usually have the volume up really loud. the CX500's would probably be alot better for the extra bit of money, and are still below your price limit. Sennheiser really do make good quality sound products.
 
just some good closed headphones should work fine... why pay more for noise canceling and have a lesser quality headphone?

plus wouldnt it slightly alter your perception of the music you were listening to?

the sennheiser hd280 pro do a great job of sealing out most noise and are a fantastic quality for their value.
