No special award for CGI actors

This is a very interesting interview with Andy Serkis who says he doesn't think there is a need for a special oscar catagory for actors who only appear in a film as full CGI characters. With the ever changing technology there may be a time where the majority of actors do their scenes using motion capture and provide the same physical performance that they may do if filmed normally but won't get recognised in award season eg Zoe Saldana in avatar not short listed

Anyone think it might be time to include these performances seperately or should they still be lumped in with general film appearance?

Serkis would have walked off with an acting award if they were lumped in. All the behind-the-scenes docs on LOTR show the effort he put in was easily as much as a normal actor. He made Gollum believable. There have been digital characters since which have had better technology behind them but haven't been quite so convincing because of the performance of the actor behind the pixels.
