Not a hope in heck will that work, the IRD puts out 13volts for odd number transponders, and 18 volts for even numbered transponders, that is how the LNB knows what polarity to use, if the IRD doesn't put out the voltage then the LNB doesn't know what to do. You can insert power and depending on the voltage on what you would get but that would mean you might not get the guide and only maybe half the channels, you would have to lower or raise the voltage to get the rest so that means no chanel surfing as you would have to change it manually as you go.
Now the reason for your problem is that you either have a small short in the coax somewhere and it has been there a long time or there was a lightning strike in the area and you took a surge through the coax.
Or you need a reset but either holding the power button down for more than 10 serconds or
Turn on the receiver
On the remote, press MENU then 6 and then 1
On the remote, press the following sequence: INFO then BROWSE then THEME
Press the TV/VIDEO button, and then the ird's Front power button
The receiver will reboot, flush its memory and redownload its software
Now your receiver is RESET to Factory defaults
