I have 2 5900 receivers (one in my bedroom and one in the living room) with programming through both 91 and 82. My plan was to disconnect the one in my bedroom to bring to my inlaws so we could watch some of the shows I recorded to it.

As soon as I disconnected the power cord to the receiver in the bedroom, the receiver in the living room lost all channels and then checked the signal which was at 0%. I did all the power cycling check switch, etc. Nothing worked. So I thought I'd connect the power cord for the receiver in the bedroom back to check the signal on that. Voila, signal/programing came back in the living room receiver.

Question: Am I to assume now that I need to have both receivers connected for the other to receive programming/signal?

This was not the case in the past, as I used to do this on a monthly basis. What has changed recently though is about a month ago, I had a tech come out to improve reception on my dish so I assume he changed something so that now both receivers need to be plugged in to obtain signal.

"Is this the case now?, Is there a way to correct this? booooo!"

Not knowing what type of multi-switches you have installed, it sounds like the receiver in your bedroom is providing the DC voltage for the LNB. If you go to your multiswitch and swap the ports that the receivers are on it should work fine.

I agree with Hurricane, sounds like we need more info on your setup though. What type of switch do you have? If powered, which receiver is on the line with it?

Did you try to unplug the OTHER receiver to see if the one in the bedroom still works or not?

If you don't have any powered switches (i.e. you have SW21s) then it sounds like a hardware issue in the PVR in the living room.

Other than mis-configuration or defective hardware, there is no reason why your single PVR (one, the other, or both) can't be used on their own or together.

Yes, I have just now tried exactly that. Thanks for your suggestion.

So I now disconnected the the receiver in the living-room, and my Bedroom receiver is unaffected.

Yet still, if I disconnect the receiver in my bedroom, the living-room loses signal/programming.

"Assuming there is a 90 day warranty on the last tech visit (a month ago), I will call expressvu and have them correct that :)"

It is covered and they are coming on Monday :)

And I didn't move/change any of the wiring, just disconnected the power cable/satellite cable feed to one of the receivers which resulted in me losing signal/programming to the other. (As I explained all of this to the tech on the phone).

The tech rep was helpful and knew exactly what needed to be done and automatically arranged for a tech visit without my requesting it.

"Positive experience! Yup"

I had a nieghbor complain to me that the same thing happened to him, and he wasn't covered under warranty, because he moved the receiver. Turns out he moved the receiver that had the power inserter on it :o
Took the tech 5 minutes to fix it, and gave him a bill for $75!
I felt bad for him, and told him to call me if he has another issue like that (he isn't a real techy type, and I have gone over to reprogram, and then change the batteries in his remote!)
I said feed me a few beers while I am "working" and hopefully I can fix it, and save you $75
