No relief from sweating.

Hey guys,

I have hyperhydrosis.....excessive sweating. Only under the arms though. I've had it for a few years now. It got worse when I gained weight, and lessened when I lost it, but then I had gone on birth control for about a year. I've been off it for about 9 months now and my hyperhydrosis is completely out of control since then.

I've tried certain dry, secret clinical strength, degree clinical strength, you name it. Yes, I'm following the directions and putting those on at night, often paired with a 'normal' anti antiperspirant/deo. in the AM. I've even tried the prescription via my doctor, and I was so horribly allergic to it my armpits turned red, itched so incredibly bad and flaked a layer of skin off.

I am so tired of having to wear black, and wear layers of clothes to hide this. It happens rather I'm hot or cold, moving or still, and it's not smelly or yellow, it's just like someone turned on a faucet, it's so unpleasant.

Now I no longer have health care, so any advice you can throw my way keeping that in mind would be awesome.

Thanks in advance =)

Hi,

There is a surgery called retrodermal curretage in which the sweat glands from the armpits are removed. If you don't have health care coverage though, you probably won't have the money to cover it. As with any surgery, there are risks to be considered.

You can get an anticholinergic medication such as Ditropan or Robinul which will eliminate the sweating but you may not like the side effects such as dry eyes and dry mouth. These meds are usually prescribed for bladder control but many hyperhidrosis sufferers use them to stop the sweat.

For most people it is a matter of finding the antiperspirant with the active ingredient that works for that person. I can use any antiperspirant but husband had such a bad underarm sweating problem ruined all his work shirts until I discovered that he can only use antiperspirants with the active ingredient of Aluminum Zirconium...there are a few brands with that. He too used the doctor prescribed antiperspirant that did not work. There are many more brands with different active ingredients so but if you have tried them all then it comes down to things that cost money like Botox or the minor surgery. I am sorry you haven't found anything to help you yet but keep trying things. Someone on the internet somewhere might have the answer. Good luck.
