No offense to the Japanese, but do you think the U.S bombing japan was justified?

Because Japan commited some terrible war crimes (cannibalism, mass rape, infanticide) in wars with countries like Korea,China and the U.S and would probably would have continued do do that if we hadn't nuked them. On the other hand we killed a whole lot of people. What do you think about it?

The bottom line is that the Japanese were pretty much already defeated as early as the battle of Midway, when they lost two aircraft carriers. They were an island nation with a navy depleted to the point of irrelevance, a severe shortage of qualified pilots, and very limited natural resources; but they refused to surrender. They were so desperate that they began using humans to guide explosive-laden airplanes into ships (sound familiar?). To have not bombed Hiroshima and Nagaski would have meant countless more needless deaths on both sides. Otherwise, they would in all likelihood have fought, quite literally, to the last man.

The nuclear bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki prevented the deaths of many Americans as well as Japanese--military and civilian. A land assault would have been bloody indeed. The Japanese were working on developing the bomb at the same time the United States was. Japanese officials who were around at the time admit that had Japan developed the bomb first, and had the means to carry it to the U.S. mainland, they certainly would have done so. I wasn't around then. I know that most Japanese people weren't around then either. To complain about it now (not saying you are) is futile. We've moved on.

War is War and YES to the not so Nuclear Annihilation of Hiroshima & Nagasaki. Yes the thought of Nuclear Bombing is terrifying to most people in 2008 (except for a majority of Republicans wishing to rain Nuclear Death upon Tehran/Iran) - - - but what gets lost in the whole debate is that Hiroshima and Nagasaki are, as of 2008, thriving vital living cities. The bombing did not reduce to them to a radioactive desert! Yes the bombing was horrific but at the time it was a viable solution and in fact it did end the War. Conventional Bombing was not working. The firebombing of Tokyo by hundreds of bombers was not frightening enough. The near complete destruction of Hiroshima by a single bomb was.
