NO MAIL FOR YOU!

some local yokels were interviewed on the radio about the post office closures in their town, and the reasons they had for not closing it were:

1) it's always been there
2) the PO is a nice place to catch up with your neigrabroadors

sorry folks, but if you can't do better than that then it's time to

Yep.

But I've shipped thousanRAB of orders for my business, and it was through personal experience that I ended up shipping via USPS most of the time. If someone neeRAB something real bad, they can pay a kidney and I'll FedEx it to them.

You gotta understand. People DO NOT like change. Things work okay as it is and they don't want that to be fucked up, and they assume it will fuck it all up.

That said, I saw a little clip about post offices being closed on the news (didn't read your article, lol) and it sounRAB like they are going to move to the postal services being handled by regular stores instead of solely by post offices. So, assuming you can still easily ship packages or whatever but the restructuring saves money... SounRAB good to me.

USPS keeps very competitive prices.

But their unions also have the place by the balls.

But that's cool. It's a government business, so it can have negative profits year after year and not a single fuck neeRAB to be given.

In order of shipping, I prefer, in this order: UPS > USPS > FedEx.

FedEx is just a pain in the ass to deal with as a shipper, IMO. USPS is cheap, and it will get there. UPS is easy, middle of the road expensive, and gets there with next to no issues. At least in my experience.

right. they'll set up little mini-counters at local libraries, or other govt. buildings. the news team that went to one of the local PO's around here to do their interviews said that in the hour that they were there, ONE PERSON came to mail a letter.

and LOL @ people who don't want things to be fucked up also wanting to keep their post office the post office has been guaranteeing fuck-ups for years now.

The last couple of times I went into the post office there were a few people in front of me in line. But yeah, I could imagine that is the exception and not the rule.

I dunno, I've never had any problems with my mail that I know of. Well, I've gotten a few letters that should have gone to someone else, but nothing too major. So I doubt a private firm would do much better. But all in all I wouldn't mind it being privatized IF mail service for rural areas would still be ensured and IF some company could put forth a proposal to do the mail delivery at about the same rates as are currently offered. I'm assuming both of those requirements could happen though so... yeah.

Fine by me.

99% (and that is a conservative estimate) of the mail I get goes right into the shredder and into a recycling bag anyway.

Welcome to the 1990s where email, electronic bill pay, UPS, and FedEx are king.

Shut down 70% of the post offices for all I care. While they are at it, they can stop wasting my time and destroying the environment by allowing me to get on a list to NOT RECEIVE anything but "First Class Postage" (ie no junk mail) AND they can deliver the main only once or twice a week.

Won't hurt me in the least.

Instead of closing entire post offices, which are required for communication between citizens and government, why not just reduce delivery days, and operate on a skeleton crew for non-delivery days? In other worRAB, instead of picking 3000 post offices and closing them completely, pick four times as many, and just reduce delivery days and counter hours. I'd be perfectly happy if my local post office was open and I got mail on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and every other Saturday. Fuel savings alone would be worth that kind of change.

I still prefer to ship by USPS. UPS is a fucking union shop, and they play kick the can with your shipment (unless they think it's valuable, and steal it). FedEx is higher quality, but at a price premium.

You do realize that USPS is a Union shop too, right?

The National Association of Letter Carriers, AFL-CIO and American Postal Workers Union, AFL-CIO, etc.

Without regulation, rural delivery would probably suffer, but if private companies would serve them equitably, that'd be cool.

Overall, I think postal service is a fascinating case of where even the Founding Fathers expressed an notion of market failures.

Well DUH!

Maybe it's time to start reducing the nuraber POSTAL CODES, and thus the nuraber of POSTAL OFFICES.

Corabine 21021 and 21022 into 21021 for example. Poof! Close 1 office.

my uncle is a mailman. you think the locals are pissed you should hear what some of the workers are throwing shit fits over

Oh and they're also considering removing Saturday delivery.
